Terms of service

These terms are the rules for using Nihao ("Nihao", "we"). Using it means you accept them.

1. Your account

  • You must be at least 13 years old. Where local law sets a higher age, that age applies.
  • One account per person. It is yours; do not transfer or lend it.
  • What you write should be true — pet profiles especially, because other people decide whether to bring their dog to meet yours based on them.
  • We confirm it is you with an email code or with Sign in with Apple / Google. Look after your mailbox.

2. What you post

The photos, text and pet profiles you post remain yours. We claim no ownership of them.

So that we can show them to the people you chose, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, resize and display that content inside Nihao. The licence goes no further than running the service itself — we do not put your photos in advertising, marketing material or any third-party product.

When you delete something, the licence for it ends. Messages already delivered into someone else's conversation are the exception, for the reason set out in §6 of the privacy policy.

3. What is not allowed

Any of the following gets content removed, accounts banned, and in serious cases referred to law enforcement:

  • Harassment, threats, stalking, hate speech, or any sustained targeting of a person;
  • False profiles: pets that do not exist, stolen photos, impersonation;
  • Commercial promotion: selling animals, marketing services, advertising, or funnelling people to another platform. V1 Nihao is not a marketplace;
  • Sexual, violent or unlawful content;
  • Posting somebody else's address, phone number, employer or other identifying details without their consent;
  • Scraping, bulk registration, automation, or attempts to defeat rate limits, location blurring or any other protection;
  • Using Nihao for anything unlawful where you are.

4. Meeting people offline

Nihao exists to get you to meet people nearby. That makes a few things worth stating plainly:

  • We do not run background checks. We do not verify anyone's identity, occupation or history.
  • We suggest: meet somewhere public the first time (a park, a dog park, a busy street), tell a friend where you are going, and keep your own phone with you.
  • We are not responsible for what happens at an offline meeting. You and the people you meet are each responsible for your own conduct.
  • If you feel unsafe, leave and call the police. Afterwards, report the person in the app — reports go to a human queue and we read them.

5. Reports and bans

  • Any post, person, activity or place can be reported. Reports are reviewed by a person, not by an automated system.
  • The outcome may be: no action, a warning, content removal, or a ban.
  • We aim to be fair, but we reserve the right to ban an account immediately where we think it is necessary — including before an investigation is finished, if leaving it open is a risk.
  • If you think you were banned in error, write to support@nihao-pet.com and a person will look again.

6. Provided as is

Nihao is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent the law allows:

  • we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet your expectations;
  • we are not responsible for your interactions with other users;
  • we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from using, or being unable to use, the service.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties or liabilities to be excluded. Where that is the case, these clauses apply only as far as local law permits.

7. Changes and termination

  • We may add, change or remove features. Where a change materially affects content you already have, we say so in the app in advance.
  • You can delete your account at any time (see §7 of the privacy policy).
  • We may terminate your account if you break these terms seriously or repeatedly.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
